CONDITIONS AFFECTING WOMEN

Pregnancy

Chiropractic care can help the pelvis and spine cope with the effects of pregnancy by restoring a state of balance to the body. During pregnancy, a woman’s center of gravity shifts forward to the front of her pelvis. This additional weight in the front part of the body causes additional stress to be put on the joints of the low back and pelvis. As the baby continues to grow and develop, the added weight causes an increased curvature in the mother’s lower back, which puts even more stress on the already fragile facet joints on the back side of the spine. Should there be any pre-existing conditions in the spine, they will only be exacerbated as the pelvis and spine become overtaxed. This often leads to pain and difficulty performing everyday activities. FIBROMYALGIA

Fibromyalgia syndrome is a chronic disorder that includes fatigue, widespread muscle pain, and multiple tender points and it affects 3-6 million people in the United States. The meaning of the word fibromyalgia comes from fibro, which is the Latin term for fibrous tissue and the Greek terms for muscle (myo) and pain (algia). For reasons that are not yet clear, more than 90% of those who develop fibromyalgia are women.

Regular chiropractic care is critical for those suffering from fibromyalgia as it prevents the muscles and spine from losing too much movement. To have your issues addressed by our experienced chiropractors, fill out the appointment request form.

PMS

Premenstrual Syndrome, also known as PMS, is characterized by back pain, mood swings, headaches, a swollen abdomen, fatigue, food cravings, irritability, and depression in the days before a woman’s monthly period. The severity of these issues can range from mild to incapacitating and may last for a couple of days up to two weeks. Several studies have shown that chiropractic care may be able to decrease the many uncomfortable and sometimes debilitating symptoms of PMS without the side effects of prescription drugs.

It is estimated that three out of every four menstruating women experience some form of PMS and it is more likely to be an issue for women from their late 20s to early 40s. Although chiropractic can’t fix the way the body responds to hormonal changes that precede menstruation, several studies show that it can help reduce many of the symptoms of PMS without side effects.
